About the town

Windsor is a town of approximately 5,500 residents at the heart of the Val-Saint-François MRC, in Quebec's Eastern Townships (Estrie), where the Saint-François and Watopeka rivers meet. A former industrial town whose economy grew around the Domtar paper mill — still exporting fine paper worldwide today — Windsor has kept its close-knit community fabric while modernizing its residential offerings. The downtown core retains traditional architecture along rue Principale, while the Stanley, Saint-Georges and Doran-Duke-Doucet sectors now host a new generation of well-maintained rental housing. Renting in Windsor means affordable living, a short drive to Sherbrooke, without the drawbacks of a large city.

Access and transport

Windsor sits less than 30 minutes by car from downtown Sherbrooke via Route 143 or Highway 55, making it a favourite address for commuters who work in Sherbrooke but want lower rent. Route 249 connects Windsor to Richmond in about 15 minutes, and Highway 55 provides direct access to Drummondville (40 min) and the Montreal-Quebec corridor. The Sherbrooke intermodal station (Orléans Express) is roughly 25 minutes away, and Sherbrooke's regional airport is 20 minutes out. Municipal adapted transit serves seniors and those with reduced mobility.

The town has two primary schools, one secondary school (Polyvalente du Tournesol) and a vocational training centre, making it particularly appealing to families. For healthcare, the Windsor medical clinic and CLSC handle primary care, while the Windsor Hospital covers broader services. Rues Principale Nord and Principale Sud concentrate neighbourhood shops, pharmacies, banks, an IGA grocery, hardware stores and restaurants.
